Decision support, not legal advice
The tools apply Health Canada and CFIA guidance to the information you enter. They don't replace the Food and Drugs Act, the Food and Drug Regulations or the documents incorporated by reference. The label owner is responsible for the accuracy and compliance of their labels.
Your inputs
Results depend on what you enter. Nutrient values, reference amounts, display surface areas and exemption answers must be accurate and specific to your product.
What isn't covered
- Nutrition Facts tables for foods intended solely for infants or children under 4, and formats other than the Bilingual Standard Format (horizontal, simplified, linear, dual and aggregate).
- Working out whether a product is exempt or which nutrients are “High in”. You choose these yourself in the FOP tool.
- Assortments, multi-food packages and products with an aggregate Nutrition Facts table.
- Health-related representations on the principal display panel (guide section 8).
- The exact minimum buffer for each symbol format, which is set in the Directory of Nutrition Symbol Specifications.
- Additional nutrients beyond the 13 core nutrients, and nutrient content claims.
Symbol artwork
Symbol files are Health Canada's figures, reproduced from the Compendium of Nutrition Symbol Formats (© Government of Canada) without redrawing. They are provided so labels can meet the FDR's presentation requirements. Don't alter, recolour or add anything inside the symbol. Health Canada's .eps files are available from smiu-ugdi@hc-sc.gc.ca.
Free use
Each tool allows two different free downloads a day. Downloading the same table or symbol again on the same day doesn't count. We may change these limits.
No warranty
The tools are provided free of charge, “as is”, without warranty. To the extent permitted by law, Karimont is not liable for losses arising from their use.
